Why Change your Regulator Rectifier?

Problems with your motorcycles battery going flat / not charging?

If your Garage / Mechanic has told you that you need a new Suzuki SV 1000 or SV 650 voltage rectifier regulator, they have probably tested the battery voltage with and without the engine running. If the battery is not charging with the engine running there is a high likelihood that the regulator has failed.

Regulator rectifiers give your bike the electrical current / voltage required to meet the demand created by the ignition system, lights and other accessories. If, as with most modern motorcycles / scooters, your bike uses a 12V system and battery to power the electrics, the regulator charges the battery while the engine is running.

It is important to install the correct rectifier regulator as each motorcycle or scooter will have different electrical demands, regulator location (relevant to heat loss) and in some cases battery voltage. Also, some regulators control their output based upon a sensor wire or other means while others do not.

Before replacing your regulator rectifier, make sure you or your mechanic inspect and test for continuity all the wiring associated with the charging circuit as heat, vibration, moisture and corrosion in the wiring loom can cause similar symptoms to a failed voltage regulator.

Note: If you purchase an aftermarket voltage regulator, such as those we sell, you may find that the wire colour, size and connector colour may be different to the original part. Please be assured that the performance will be equal to, and in many cases be better than, the original part.

You may be tempted by a cheaper replacement part direct from China or the Far East. If something seems to good to be true, it usually is! We offer a no quibble 1 year replacement warranty, free express UK shipping and World Wide customer support and advice. All our parts are stocked and shipped from the UK.

All our voltage regulators sold above the £30 price point are MOSFET regulators. MOSFET regulators run cooler and last longer than standard transistor regulators. It is a win win. You get a better performing regulator, we get less returns.
